Full Version: smtp not working

My server went down a few days ago and since then the SMTP server hasn't been working properly. I can send email from webmail on the server but not from an email client (ie. Thunderbird), it gives this error:

QUOTE
The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections.

Now, I can't even connect to SMTP using telnet (telnet mail.domain.com 25) from a remote destination (I can connect from the server itself). I also do not see anything in the logs, /var/log/messages or /usr/local/psa/var/log/maillog, which lead me to believe it is the firewall... but I turn it off and still the same problem. I tried turning Relaying to Open in Plesk (using version 7) but that didn't change anything, and even though I turned it back dnsreport.com is saying I have open relaying on which is slightly disturbing. One other wierd thing is my /etc/resolv.conf just had "nameserver some.ip.that.was.ns3.ev1.net", so I changed it to "nameserver localhost/ns1.mydns.com/ns2.mydns.com". Also, /var/qmail/bin/qmail-qstat says:

messages in queue: 99
messages in queue but not yet preprocessed: 0

I have run out of ideas so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

you sure there is no firewall blocking traffic.

Yes... I turn APF firewall off, it tells me it is off, and iptables -L doesn't list anything, so that should verify the firewall is off, right?

make sure your internet provider are not started to block the smtp port...
Lot of provider are starting to do this to stop spam from those provider IPs...

This mean you have to use the smtp from your provider.

Agh, you are right!! Thanks x007, it would've taken me a long time to realize that.

Sidenote (and for people searching): Grrr Rogers (my ISP) is really a terrible, terrible company when it comes to customer service. They just blocked port 25 with no notification.
