Full Version: Alternative SMTP Port

Hello,

My ISP blocks port 25 but I need to configure an alternative SMTP port for outgoing mail in addition to port 25. On H-Sphere it was a single command line to a config file to have ports 25 and 587. On cPanel it was as easy as configuring an alternative port of 26. How is it done on Plesk?

Thanks,

Neofree

Hi Neofree:

If my memory is correct, the Plesk start up files for mail handling are in /etc/xinetd.d

Check out the psa files for SMTP and you should be able to adjust the parameters; then restart xinetd.

Thank you.

Hi,

By default QMAIL runs on ports 25 and 465. If you would like to add an additional port I recommend adding an SSH tunnel. Webmin can be used for this.

Comcast blocks port 25 but leaves 465 open (here anyway) so I just activate secure connections in the email client. Mail sending is a little slower, but it was easy to do.

465 worked, awesome to know. (Boy what a hard answer to find though, I searched first..)

I'm having the same problem. However port 465 doesn't work for me. I too have Plesk and QMail...

Hi,

Please clarify what your problem is? In order to diagnose we need error information from your maillog and/or error information from your client machine.

Are you sure you are allowing TCP/465 through your firewall?

Ah! I figured it out. I simply turned on SSL and it worked. Thanks!
