Full Version: Subdomains on different servers

I have 2 servers.

Server 1 has:
domain.com
www1.domain.com

Server 2: (plesk)
www2.domain.com

I have the DNS setup so that www2.domain.com goes to my second server, but it goes to the default vhost and not the one that I setup for it.

In plesk I added www2.domain.com as a new domain(I have tried it with the www checked and unchecked), but it will take me to the default page every time.

Any suggestions?

Thank You,
TAF

Did you do it? I am interested in how to do it.
Thanks.

you need to point the DNS record to point at server to wherever the resolution is done for that domain and it will work fine.

OK, I know that I can do it as:

sub.domain.com IN A IP

How do it for all subdomains?
I mean main domain - domain.com is on seperate, different server and subdomains are on another server. Can I write it as:

*.domain.com IN A IP

When I did it it worked for me good ( I don't know whether it works well for another people - on another computers and systems etc ), but I am not sure that it is good way for that.

I beleive and hope that you understand what I mean... Thanks for help.

pretty much your looking to do wildcard subdomains to a specific server correct?
xeryph
I don't know what you mean. I want to have one domain of single server - ex. domain.com. It is my company domain and I give subdomains as ex. sub.domain.com for my customers. I want to have my domains ( site ) on single server and all customers domains on another. I don't want to set DNS for subdomains as:

sub.domain.com IN A IPtosecond server

but I want to do in with some automatication - that all subdomains are automaticaly moved to another/second server.

I hope that you know and understand it.
Mayby, I don't know about it, but I can do it as wildcard DNS, but I am not sure...

Thanks for some solution.
