Getting ready to purchase A dedicated Windows 2003 Box. I will be hostiing other domains for other people. I will be doing all the administration. My clients will never log on to helm.

In addition, I will installing Smartmail, TrenMicro AV.

Should I use Helm to manage things or is it a waste of server resources.

Thanks
Marc

Control panels will decrease your ressources a bit and plus, Helm will use a lot of RAM for all of it's MSSQL databases and scheduled tasks.

If you're going to host, I highly recommend using Apache with the VirtualHosts option.

In addition, I've tried Helm and didin't like it. It has many bugs and is quite hard to learn.

Marc,

Helm can be a bit "big" for people not used to multi-server control panels. But if you take the time to read the documentation, you'll be fine.

Paulius - what bugs did you see?

Helm has a no effect on your server resources. On a 200 website server Helm uses about 40 MB of RAM, and hits about 1% cpu occasionally on a peak.

Unless you know much about configuring accounts, permissions, bla bla bla, you should probably get a control panel of some type.

Helm is an excellent choice, and will support any future growth aspirations you may have.

However, if you wanna be uber cool, you could try Helm, create accounts, and see what objects it creates, then try to go it alone without a cp.

good luck!

Do I need a local DNS server to use hlem or can I use DNS Made Easy. None of my clients will need accesss to their zone. I am hoping I can contine to use DNS Made easy with DNS functions in helm disabled. Also, If I have websites set up on my box would I need to recreate them in Helm?
