Full Version: DNS Drops Domains sometimes?

Hi,

I have recently been having a issue with my DNS. It spiratically drops sub domains. For a long time I kept thinking it was my broadband providers DNS however using another provider it is still happening.

Example:

Ads.blueboxhost.net only works part of the time. This is a sub domain that serves our ads on a few forums. But all of the sudden it hardly ever works.

Another domain that sometimes gets droped is mail.blueboxhost.net. I am not sure why but it does sometimes.

If you have any ideas please let me know.

There has been no changes on the server except more accounts however nothing has been changed in the software for a month or so.

I have never seen this, when you have the issue are they physically deleted or are they simply not working for you.

When they are not working try looking at a dnsstuff.com report.

eth00,

Ok, ran the report becuase this morning it did not seem to be working. This is the only error it had to say:

WARNING: Your SOA EXPIRE time is : 3600000 seconds. This seems a bit high. You should consider decreasing this value to about 1209600 to 2419200 seconds (2 to 4 weeks). RFC1912 recommends 2-4 weeks. This is how long a secondary/slave nameserver will wait before considering its DNS data stale if it can't reach the primary nameserver.

So it did seem to get a record. I am starting to wonder if its my network here. But im not sure.

Thanks

You could change the refresh time but that does not have a large impact unless you change the ips. I would just go ahead and lower it to see if it will help you with your isp some. At this point I think it is an ISP issue and not a server issue.

Yeah,

Just had a freind from england check it out when it was down for me. He had no problem with the domain. So I do think it is something in this area because i have used 2 ISP's. I have a backup dial up account with another and it does it there to.

But its not doing it anywhere else so thats good.
