Hi,

I am running plesk 2.0 with red hat lunix 7.1 and am having problems with part of the setup. Every time I add hosting to a domain I need to restart plesk, else all CGI scripts stop working. I checked the error_log in the apache folder and it has something weared! See below:

[warn] send body: filedescriptor (1072) larger than FD_SETSIZE (1024) found, you probably need to rebuild Apache with a larger FD_SETSIZE

I have talked to tech about this at rack shack and they have no idea whats wrong. I have about 350 + domains on the server and everytime somebody adds hosting to a domain I need to log into the server and ever rebot it using the command: /etc/rc.d/init.d/psa restart or : /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/my_apci_rst

Can anyone advise me exactly how to sort this problem and what the problem is? I was advised by tech at rack shack that it also had something to do with SSL and that I should switch this to port 80 and not 443

Please Please Help.

Pretty sad for a tech to have no idea what's wrong, a fast search in google finds:

Apache's Page on Descriptors

Some sites make a mention that the error "indicates that you have too many virtual hosts on your site".

Maybe something to do with too many open sockets, or apache checking for a large # of virtual domains and bogging on restart? Dunno.

Ah.

I did do a little research and did find out that the FD_SETSIZE was coming up as apache will only support 1024 processes and my server was running more than that. On a plesk server each domain uses 1 process and if you have SSL on it increases that to 4 (not sure if its 4 more or just 4) but it increases that. So if you have 300 domains all running SSL your server will not restart apache properly everytime you add hosting to a domain and you will need to manually restart apache. Anyway thats the answer to my own question but now I pose a different question. How do I increase the FD_SETSIZE from 1024 to maybe lets say 2048. I have a fast enough server and over a GB of ram so this should be possible. I now it has something to do with the kernal but thats as far as I get. Can anyone help.
