Full Version: Cheapest way to replace starter cert?

My previous starterssl cert through ev1 has expired.

I'm trying to get a new starter cert. I generated a new cert request, and went through ev1's site.... but rapidssl is still recognizing it as a 'renewal' instead of a new cert.

Nothing during the ordering process has told me what the 'renewal' price will be. I'm at the final:

------
"Click the Submit Order button (below) to finalize this order information and to enter the Telephone Authentication phase of this order."
-----

button, and I don't know if I'm getting ev1's discounted price or something else?

Why does this ssl ordering have to be such a pain in the a?????

Anyone know what the price that I'll be hit with is?

And if it's not the ev1 discounted price, how would I get that?

Thank you,

Chris

Hello, I'm in a similar situation, it seems you can only renew the StarterSSL certificate as one of the more expensive options, I've seen this in the web page for the renewal:

QUOTE
FreeSSL is now the name of our 30 day trial certificate. In the place of StarterSSL and ChainedSSL certificates we are proud to announce RapidSSL - a single root install certificate ideal for lite levels of ecommerce and is available in both standard and wildcard offerings. RapidSSL offers increased support by supporting more browsers yet still comes at the low renewal price of our previous offerings.

RapidSSL, at US$ 34 per year, seems to be the most economical option.

Could somebody from EV1 confirm this? or there is anyway to actually renew StarterSSL at the same price we paid one year ago (or at least the current US$ 14.95 that EV1 home page states)?

Regards!

The renewal price is the same as the new cert price... for billing purposes, consider them the same thing. If it asks you to renew through us instead of generate a new certificate, you will pay the listed price on the website.

At this point, I have had no indication that the StarterSSL certificate was being discontinued, but I will make sure this forum thread gets to the right manager.

Update:

HOW DO YOU RENEW?

To renew your certificate, please click on the following link and follow the instructions to buy a RapidSSL certificate.

The renewal process will only take a few minutes, so please take this opportunity to renew your certificate today.

I'm interested in this topic as well. I have some starters that are going to expire, and there's no option to renew. Moving to the rapidssl isn't too expensive, but still...

Whats the difference between a rapidssl and quickssl that EV1 sells, I see that a quickssl is more expensive on another website

It will be at the same rate as published on our site.

Here is the response I got from our dev team:

Starter SSL Certs are renewable, they actually renew to the rapidSSL Cert. The emails going out are telling customers that StarterSSLs are just one month certs, the emails need to be changed.

We are working on getting the emails updated so that they do not confuse anyone.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.
