I removed the permissions from the root and left only system and administrators.

After that i have any kind of problems, i tryied to fix it with the servertastic guide and was worse.

The websites loads ok, but i have problems loading the stats http://ip/stats... or the horde webmail or phpmyadmin, all those are poping up for authetication.

Thank you in advance!

That guide has screwed up a lot of perfecly good servers. There is nothing I can tell you here that will fix your problem other than to restore from an image and start over.

good luck with that one!!

Dont think the guide has messed up the servers icon_wink.gif

I haven't seen that guide but I find it hard to believe it councils admins to set perms at the root level like that. So many directories need more perms than admin/system, at least on yoru system partition (usually C:) they do.

Reinstall OS and start over is your best bet. Chalk it up to experience icon_smile.gif

All our servers have just Administrators / System on the root of each drive.

Yup, permissions should be set on individual folders (or even just files) - not the root. Amazing how many people set the Users group on the root of their drive then wonder why people can see each other's domain files.

But not all the way down through the directory tree?! Please stipulate. Some newbie might see your post and decide that's what they should do too.

Note to Newbies: It will trash your OS completely if you did this.

Yes I have Administrators / System all the way down the tree and then added the required perms to the necessary folders for each program to run.

The article is not a secure your server article but about the perms required for HELM to run on a server.

If a newbie wants to secure their server they should seek advice from a system admin.

I would disagree with that statement too.

As quoted from Cornfused's article About the Perms Required for HELM to Run on a Server ".......giving everyone full control over your c: drive sets all perms required for HELM to run on a server, however......"

Disclaimer: Please don't do that. My point is that the guidlines provide minimum permissions (at best) for a HELLM installation to run. Therefore, the article was written with security in mind, and if not done correctly will simply make ME more money in server administration fees icon_smile.gif .

Tell you what I'll add some changes to make it clearer.

I've added some additional notes to the article.
