Hi,

One of my clients has never been able to send a message through their own email server. They can receive fine, they can send and receive through other accounts (specifically yahoo) but they can't send through their mail.domain.com server. The message they get is:

Task "mail.domain.com - Sending" is reported error (0x800CCC0f" : The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or ISP.

I had them try to send an email while I looked at the maillog in telnet using tail. No errors occured in the maillog, suggesting they didn't even get through to communicate with the server. I restarted Sendmail from telnet and didn't get any error messages in the maillog or the messages log.

If they use the ISP's mail server they can send messages just fine but this isn't a consistent solution as they use several different ISP's (I don't know why). Besides, why would they be able to send messages using yahoo but not their own domain?

I have read elsewhere that this may be due to my pop-3 nowait setting in inetd.conf not being high enough but from what I understand of that process I would be getting a distinctive error message in the maillog if this was the case.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. They're getting very frustrated and I don't have any answers for them!

when they send using yahoo, are they using web or are they using an email client and smtp? this sure sounds like their ISPs are blocking port 25. lots of providers make you use their smtp server if you're on their IP.

Yeah, it looks like they're blocking port 25. I'm looking into opening up another listening port for smtp. Thanks for replying!
