which version in your opinion?

I would want to buy a XEON 2.4 Ghz. Windows web edition 2003 coulb be a good version or not?

There are a list of features missing from web edition compared to standard, but here are the ones you'd probably miss the most:

Internet Connection Firewall (not that you cant use RRAS Filtering)
Windows Media Services (no ability to stream and media)

And only supports up to 2gb of RAM (instead of 4 for STD Edition)

Like mentioned it all depends on your needs. Here is the basic breakdown chart from microsoft on the differences

I always go the extra dollar and stay with standard just incase i have a client that needs something out of the normal

Thatīs right if you think you will ever need Windows Media go for Standard version

I believe I'm right in saying that Web Edition prevents you from installing MS SQL Server on it?

yes, but most people are fine with MySQL, which is allowed on Web Edition.
