hi Ash,

your clients could install their own free version themselves,
or you could get the server wide version and setup as many users for it as you like, this one costs though.

Otherwise, it'll have to be a filemanager that runs through ftp, like an online ftp client. Then you wouldn't need to setup anything for each user, assuming they each have ftp logins of course.

Yes, and as I have just discovered, if they find out you are using this pkg for your hosting business they will come and ask big buck for continuing to use it:

"...I am sending you
this email clarifying the terms of our license agreement, that any
company or individual who uses Fileman in the capacity of an ISP has to
contact Gossamer Threads in regards to purchasing an ISP license.

Our fees for the use of Fileman in a hosting environment are:
US$300 per server or US$3000 for a site license....

...We hope the aforementioned will be resolved quickly and we thank you in
advance for your quick response. If you have any further questions or
comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards,
Chanelle"

Yes, at best I can only consider this to be deceptive advertisement on the part of Gossimer Threads.

Here is how they describe the pkg version of fileman on their site:

----------------------------
a free version for Cobalt RaQ users. This Cobalt .pkg file will allow any site administrator on your Cobalt RaQ the ability to log into FileMan and manage their own domain (running as their own users). This package is free, but requires a link back to Gossamer Threads. If you are interested in completely branded solutions to integrate into an existing control panel, please contactus. Visit our Cobalt RaQ page for download information.
---------------------------

So the upshot is, they suck you in by telling you it's free. So you offer this to your hosted customers (and in turn, get them hooked on the convenience of using fileman), then months later they say "pay up".

... and I used to really like these people. Sheesh!

We're currently looking for someone more honest to do business with in this regard.

Jols
slick
You could install it in plesks skel dir and it will install on new domains.
axiom
And where is the Plesk Skel dir located??
rhordern
Stll looking for a way for settings to be changed to the domains settings when you put in the skell directory ...

PSA 5.0 now has a File manager accessable via the control panel icon_biggrin.gif
rhordern
I know but noone can tell me how much the upgrade licence is ...
LighthousePoint
Here are the prices through plesk.com:

30 domain license : $199 USD
300 domain license : $599 USD
unlimited domain license : $799 USD

However, I would recommend that you wait a little bit -- hopefully RackShack will get active with Plesk, and work out some form of discounted upgrade =)

Anyone know why it went from version 2.5 all the way up to 5.0?
rhordern
Aren't they the full prices ? What happens if you already have plesk 2.5 unlimited and you want to upgrade to plesk 5.0 unilimited ?
I'm not upgrading if it costs that much !
RS are supposed to be negociating with plesk so it should be ok soon... Just have to wait and see...
There are not that many "new things"
Just :
webmail, optional numerous server management from one server, filemanager and software upgrades. I've already upgraded all software that needed it and I can get a filemanager installed for a lot less than the stated pric that you gave me ...
I could even have someone install squerril mail too...

Richard
LighthousePoint
the stated prices are both for "upgrades" and "fresh-installs"
rhordern
Well, I'm not buying plesk a second time, if they don't sort something out and offer a upgrade price then I'll have to stay with plesk 2.5 .. icon_sad.gif

Holly molly!!! Ha! I'm glad I saw that!!!!!

And I was "mildly" considering going with a Plesk box there for a while.

Hey, maybe for that price they wouldn't mind if your customers called THEM with hosting support questions! icon_biggrin.gif

Well they are rackshacks liscenses, so you would not get any kind of discount from plesk for upgrades because you don't have your own key to upgrade, it is rackshacks key. As far as ones that actually own their own key, you can go to plesk.com and find all the info, I don't see what the problem is, its all their on the site if you are willing to make a few clicks.
