Hello Guys,

I am going to have about 5-6 web servers and there are going to be customers on each of the servers using the main name servers that we give them. I wanted to know how I can set up a DNS server to just handle this? Also, I wanted to know how I can also set the servers up so that you can access them like:

server1.domainname.com
server2.domainname.com , etc... for cpanel, or temp access to the web site, etc.

Please let me know as I am really interested in getting started soon!

Thank you.

I've been reading this post over and over, like 5 times and I don't fully understand what you want, so I'm gonna take a wild guess and you'll correct me if I'm wrong

get a plain redhat or freebsd box, that's your name server, ask for additional IP for the secondary name server (although if you have several servers, the secondary name server should be another box, but I'm just trying to follow you)

upgrade the box to the latest version of kernel and services

put webmin on the box, and you can configure name services from there adding all the sites you've configured in the other webservers

that's it

I don't know what you mean on this part, really

sorry, I don't know if I'm getting stupid for being online so much time, either that or I'm having some sort of second language barrier here

Just use the DNS replication of Cpanel/WHM.
Define one DNS server and configure in WHM the secondary DNS servers (wich will be your other servers)

With 6 servers, I think you can have a master DNS (which will be the SOA for all domains) and 3 servers as secondary DNS. The other 2 servers remaining wont have dns, but will be configured to use an external DNS (the one on server1).

You can also define 2 groups of DNS, having a master DNS and 2 secondaries, and another master DNS and 2 secondaries on the other 3 servers, wich everyone of the master DNS being at the same time secondaries of the other master server.

To name servers as server1, server2, server3... has no problem at all. Just define a A record on the DNS handling domain.com for those servers and name that servers server1, server2, server3... through WHM on every server.

I think is harder to explain than to do icon_smile.gif Or Im very bad explaining it icon_razz.gif

Hey guys, Thanks for the replies.

What I am trying to do is... I have the cPanel server1 set up fine. Should I set it up so that the server1 has nothing but DNS on it? Or is it okay if I have te main web site, etc, on it? I have a fair enough idea on how to add more servers and connect it with the main server so that it works, it seems simple enough.

Right now, when I goto server1.domain.com it goes to the main first web site on the server, I want it to goto the green cpanel screen! I want this to happen to all of my servers, learn from the first one and keep applying.

Please let me know. Thanks.
