I tryed to use site builder in plesk.
but it seems mambo needs to be in a subdirectory. Is it possible (using mambo) to make the cms default page in the http directory intead of http/cms/ directory?

I don't believe so, but you could always use htaccess to create an automatic perminent redirect to the subdirectory...
I've tried just about everything, short of manually installing Mambo or manually moving the install then editing everything for the new directory structure...

I moved everything manually to the root directory. It only required editing the configuration.php with the correct path. Took less than 5 minutes.
