Full Version: Helm (Included Programs)

I have been using Ensim on RHEL and have really enjoyed the experience but now the need for a Windows server has arrived. I tried Plesk but it was way different. I looked at Ensim and like version 4 but it is not available until Q1 in 05. I then looked at Helm and it seems pretty well laid out but I would like to know what programs and/or applications are installed on Windows Standard Edition using Helm. Where can I find it? Have I made a good choice? According to EV1, Plesk is the perferred C/P. I want to do it right. A little Windows Media Streaming and .asp is what I need to do.

Thanks

No additional software comes installed. Only IIS.

You will need to setup a DNS server, Mail server, FTP server, MySQL, etc.

Thanks but as all C/P's are concerned, aren't these things part of Helm and only need to set-up?
COOLIO
Helm has support for many mail servers, ftp servers, dns servers, etc.

For example, helm supports MailEnable, SmarterMail, Imail, and some others as mail servers. Then as FTP server MS-FTP and Serv-U.

You will have to install these and then configure them as services from the HELM control panel.

Ok. If I understand you right, Helm will allow me to configure these things and does not come with these things out of the box ready to go. Are there good open source programs available or do all these programs have a cost?

Thanks for your help by the way.

Yes, you understood it correctly.

Most of the software for windows has a cost. You can find free software for most of the things you need.

For example:

Mail Server: MailEnable Standard (www.mailenable.com)
FTP Server: MS-FTP (comes with windows)
DNS Server: MS-DNS (comes with windows)
Firewall: RRAS or IPSeC (comes with windows)
Antivirus: Clam-AV Windows Port (search on google, easy to find)
Stats: AWStats (awstats.sourceforge.net)
Webmail: Uebimiau
Database Server: MySQL (www.mysql.com)

With this you can get started. As Mail Server I personally recommend SmarterMail 2.0 (www.smartertools.com), but it costs about $200 per server lincense (you can find a quite good discount at www.helmtastic.com).

I hope this helps.

Mark -

What is the status here? Is this a done deal, and if so, where can I get these tools? Thanks!

I will provide the SmarterMail and Smarter Stats 50 User License ($400 value) for a $1/year Server Management contract. Just don't expect for your ticket to be answered icon_smile.gif. PM me.
MarkHall
Contract received. Just need some more time to get the process in place and work with EV1 so they can allow you to get hold of the licences.

How much for Unlimited users?

Regards,

I've already have a separate license for SmarterMail and SmarterStats for one of my servers but would definately like to get those for another server I have. MarkHall from webhostautomation said they were getting a deal together to get free licenses for EV1 customers for smartertools products, whats the progress on this??
CornFused
If you are running two mail servers and Helm, you are missing the boat. Do we need to sit you down and disuss a distributed setup?
pgware
The servers need to run independent of one another thus the reason for multiple licenses and installs.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply however, replies more to my specific questions are welcomed.
