Full Version: DNS not resolving Name Servers
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > cPanel/WHM

This will be obvious as I post, but I am not as knowledgable as I need to be to complete some of the basic functions of setting my new box up with Ev1, which is why I am here.

I have done the following.

Setup my own name servers (which I have used for two years), to point to the Ev1 IP's for their name servers.
The DNS has propogated atleast to be recognized at DNSstuff.com.

I have added all of the DNS zones to Cpanel, that I need as far as I know.

But according to DNSstuff.com, my name servers time out. They are listing the correct IP addresses associated with the FQDN NS's, they are also associated with my domain name too. But when they try to find the A record for my site, withe those name servers, it times out.

I have rechecked my DNS zones. I have not see a discrepency.

Is there any good tutorials that you could recommend?

I have found a few like:

https://members.ev1.net/rsmembers/english/s...whm/whm_dns.asp

http://webhost.page-zone.com/edit_a_dns_zone.htm

But I am still not getting something right.

I walked through all of the tutorials on EV1 servers. I have asked support for help.

I checked the status of the server. Restarted the server. Had support restart the server..

So, here I am desprately seeking an answer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I was told by support that I would need additional IP's for my name servers.

I was originally given an email when I signed up, that contained two IPs for DNS. I used those IP for my name servers.

Pointed my ns1 to the primary DNS
Pointed my ns2 to the secondary DNS

But support tells me that the only way to solve this problem, is to buy more IPs.

Is this true for anyone else?

I was with ThePlanet for awhile, and I always used thier DNS to resolve my NS's.

I found out that at EV1 it is required to use your own server/ip's for DNS.

So I think that I have this one resolved. If nothing else, maybe this will server other greenies like myself who have this question.
