My FTP client is disconnecting after uploading about half of my index file. Plus I can't chmod any of the files either. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

Welcome. Hopefully this will help narrow down the issue.

Connectivity to the server was perfect when I tested with small pings:

240.130#ping 66.98.162.xx co 40000
Sending 40000, 16-byte ICMP Echo to 66.98.162.xx, timeout 5000 msec, TTL 64
Success rate is 100 percent (40000/40000), round-trip min/avg/max=0/0/9 ms.

Large packets also are fine to your server:

192.23#ping 66.98.162.xx co 2000 size 1400 no-fr
Sending 2000, 1400-byte ICMP Echo to 66.98.162.xx, timeout 5000 msec, TTL 64, no fragment
Success rate is 100 percent (2000/2000), round-trip min/avg/max=1/1/58 ms.

Testing to the remote host was fine with small packets:

telnet@ivhou-ni-112#ping 12.214.35.xx co 100
Sending 100, 16-byte ICMP Echo to 12.214.35.xx, timeout 5000 msec, TTL 64
Success rate is 100 percent (100/100), round-trip min/avg/max=65/74/122 ms.

Large packets were also ok:

ivhou-ni-112#ping 12.214.35.xx co 100 size 1472 no
Sending 100, 1472-byte ICMP Echo to 12.214.35.xx, timeout 5000 msec, TTL 64, no fragment
Success rate is 100 percent (100/100), round-trip min/avg/max=71/76/115 ms.

At first glance this does not appear to be a fundamental connectivity issue.

Does it always stop at the same place?
If you ping the server constantly, do you see loss during the transfer?

It's strange. Both the index and gif files stop at the same place every time they're uploaded. As far as pinging, I'm not sure how to do that yet. I've always used virtual servers till now, so I'm a newbie with dedicated. Thanks for your help. The support is great here icon_smile.gif

Here's what my ftp client says in the ftp log after it disconnects:

ERROR 30027 Failed to write to local file. I don't know if this helps.

Being that you're hitting the same number of bytes on both files, it sounds like a HD space or quota issue. You haven't said what OS or control panel, so I can't provide much more suggestions than that at this time. Have you tried submitting a trouble ticket?

I'll send another one in. I'm using Ensim with Linux. Thanks for your help.

Hmmm, my best recomendation is to make sure that the user in question, and the site in question are not exceeded their alloted space. Also, make sure the HD itself is not out of space.

Tech. support got me up and running. Something about my using an IP based site and not a name based site. Now that it's running I'm not going to touch anything until I understand Ensim better.
