Ever since i got the VPS, i am having major problems with the QMail service shutting down 10000 times a day by itself.

Support told me that it was a Xinet something, other mail service problem, other to reinstall the VPS... what gives?

I can't stay in front of machine 24/7 and check out if the service goes down or not or if it does, i need to turn it back on again.

Why is this happening, anybody else with the same problem?

I did not play with the Plesk or server software, only tech. support did. So i did not install anything asside from the upgrade located in the main server menu.

I am tired of this and i am loosing clients because of that. I will start looking for another host in the next days if the problem is not solved.

Thanks for your inputs.

the "upgrade located in the main server menu" is probably what broke it. I did the update, then had to reinstall to fix the mail problem.
Ghys
you reinstalled what? the entire VPS?

If i do so, will i lose every sites there? I am new to this and need to know what will happen there...
and if i repair, i want it to fully work after that

thanks

You can backup your files first (through the vps). Will be saved to /old. Yes... this may take you a bit of extra time, but I felt it was worth it in my case.

The only problem I had, though, was that in recreating some of the user accounts, I was told some of the user names were already taken... I'm sure there's a way to get around that too, though, if it's important enough to you.

*Don't do this if you feel uncertain or uncomfortable about it. You may want to hire a server admin to fix this for you. I was just advising what I, myself, did in order to suggest that there are options open to you.

Ghys,

Just for kicks, I did the update again and notice no problem with mail. Am wondering if, perhaps, you may have interrupted the update before it was finished when you did yours or, perhaps, it was an older update.

Maybe you should check to see if this is a newer update and decide whether or not you want to take a stab at it. (It might even fix your problem -- at this point, it may not hurt. The decision is entirely yours)

P.S. FYI: You can also elect to skip certain parts of an update. Might help for future reference.

Good luck icon_smile.gif and be careful. Don't rush through things and read ALL of the instructions carefully and you should be OK.
Ghys
yep i will try not to rush things... but i have clients hammering me on the other side who want theur email service running... they need it so much, they run a B&B and reservations go thru emails...

Gotcha icon_wink.gif

If this doesn't fix it for you, seeing as how this is pretty important for you to fix (business-wise), I suggest you contact a reputable server admin company to help you out. *fingers crossed for you*
Ghys
nah.... more simple than that! change HOST i mean ! lol:rolleyes:

this is an answer i just got from tech support via trouble ticket.

".......Dear Customer,
This appeared to be a bug with Plesk. Every 10 minutes a Plesk scripts makes sure that there are no messages in the queue. If there are, it makes sure QMail is running, and if it's not, it starts qmail. Now, if messages are still in the queue 30 seconds later, it then stops qmail. We don't understand why Plesk decided to stop qmail. Nonetheless, we've modified the behavior so that it restarts qmail........"

hope it works

Ghys
got that right !

and i hate the fact that we as end users don't realy know what they are doing to our server.... i mean we have no actual log of changes and stuff done on the machine...

Good stuff, Ghys!

Glad you didn't have to reinstall.

Glad to see Ev1 came through yet again. Yay! Excellent customer care icon_smile.gif
