Full Version: Upgrading Plesk with new Hard Drive

I am considering using the upgrade options available through member support to add a new RH with Plesk ES and then copy all my domains accross..
I am however getting conflicting stories that I need to upgrade my existing plesk first (RH7.3 & Plesk 5.0.5) before I will be able to move to new HDD.
Then from a linux technician that I know (Not Red Hat), he says that it would be no problem to just move the files and import Mysql databases to the new HDD.

Can anyone here clarify what I do or dont need to do??
Is it as simple as just moving the files to the new HDD??
I have one website that runs quite a large postnuke community that I am concerned about.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

That is not a task as easy as copy and paste! that requires lot of work, patience and luck.

yes as far as i know you must first upgrade your psa, then prepare to migrate the files.....

i havent done it b4.

I can recomend you to call the 4PSA people, they seems to be one of the most trustable/reliable PSA experts on the net, they offer that service for a fair price.

I wouldnt doubt it to go with them if i were about to do what you will do.

The directory and permissions structure is completely different from psa5.0.5 to plesk7.1.* ..so you would want to upgrade your existing hd first...or try using the PMM (plesk migration manager...but that would require using 2 seperate servers..not just one).

Thanks for the advice guys...
Have been in touch with 4PSA... very expensive (US$269.00 for upgrade then another US$140.00 for migration).. but I guess if I want it done...

ouch...you can get the upgrade done cheaper by sw-soft itself...you might want to check around prices...but if you are sure that you want to use 4PSA..I hope all goes well for you....the important part is that you get it done.
