I will be ordering a server either today or tomorow and need answers to a couple of questions first, I tried using the chat support script but I got booted after about a minute?

1) I have 2 domain names for my site, .co.uk registered with a UK company and a .com registered with ev1, on the signup form it askes "I want you to transfer my domain" or "I will transfer my domain"

I will be using the .co.uk domain name so If I select "I will transfer my domain" does that mean actualy transfer from my current registrar to ev1? or does it mean I simply add the names servers to point to the evi server that I purchase?

2) I will be ordering the cpanel server so is that ready to go "out of the box" so to speak, as in can I start hosting sites on this stright away? I have a number of sites that I will be transfering and need to know if there is anything I need to do before this is possible.

3) if the server I want is currently unavailable (sold out) and I decide to order a lesser spec but with cpanel, can I upgrade to the other spec at a later time? for instance if I the P4 2.4 is not available and I order the cellerion can I upgrade at a later date and if so how easy is this.

Thanks for taking the time to read and answer these question, I did have a look at the FAQ but none of these questions apeared to be there.

1 - none, the domains are independent from the server, the only thing you need to do is to change DNS servers, you could use ev1 one or just register your owns when you get info of your new server.

2 - You need to do basic cpanel setup, like hostname and other litle stuff, there is a how to in cpanel forum, but yes, after you configure that that could take you something like 5 minutes or less you are ready to go.

It is good you take some time updating packages and do a litle security work, but that depends on the admin. But is recomended.

3 - well, not realy. You can upgrade ram and CPU. But you probably cant upgrade from a celeron to a P4. There was a post of HS a few ago, but i cant remember that option. IF you have a celeron and you want to upgrade to a P4 you probably need to buy the P4 move the accounts and then cancel the celeron.

hopefully this will help you.

@theuruguayan thanks for the information so far its much appriciated.

as for q 1, the way they have it on the signup form makes it look like you need to choose one (which you dont) maybe ev1 should make this section a little more clear.

as for q2, I would be going through some security mesures etc when I get the new box, I have read a number of how-tos etc on doing this and as you said it is recommended (and I think needed)

for q 3, well this is something I am most concerned about? I would have thought to upgrade from one type of server to another would have been a case of moving over hard drives etc and changing a couple of things, but I suppose I could purchase the new server a few days before the old one is due for its next payment and transfer sites etc over to the new box and then cancel the old one before payment is due? does this sound about right

once again thanks for the info so far

1 - hmm, cant remember, but i will check it out.
2 - good, well.. i prefer say recommended, is a matter of the user if they want to leave the box open to the work or not.
3 - yep, that sounds right.

well thanks for the help so far I do appriciate it, I am now ready to start banging my head of the wall?

I got my server (not the one I wanted as that was sold out) but this will do for now.

However I am close to banging my head of the wall when it comes to seeting a few things up? there are a couple of things that just arnt working correctly? name servers being one of them, I have the domain I used to sign up for the server point to the server but thats all.

I used the standard name servers that came with ev1 (ns1.ev1servers.net etc) and I have entered those name servers into my control panel at my registar and that domain is actualy going to the server, but I have also pointed another domain there and its getting nowehere?

I have managed to transfer all my accounts over to the new server, I have managed to install imagemagick and gd and a few other things, I have done a couple of little tweaks and security issues from tutorials etc but its just the whm setup and name servers that doing my head in and I could realy do with some help on this.

this is what I have done so far for name servers? I ordered 2 extra ips from ev1 as the server only came with one ip, I bought a domain (.com) from ev1 and have created name servers for it in the user panel for domain names and I have assisgned the ips to these to name servers.

I have been folowing this tutorial for setting up name servers tutorial I have to admit there are some great tutorials out there, however I have goto stage 2, it says no point in going further until they propergate.

I am puzzled though, I did got through the rest of the tutorial and when I cam to the part in whm to assign ip address it assigned the ip address of y server? and for the second name server it says I have no ips left?

the ips are there in the members section as I assigned them to the domain name, but they arnt showing up in whm?

ok I know I am most likely going wrong in so many places and I could realy do with some help and advice from the people here, I have other isuues but I think I have wrote enough for now

thanks in advance

ok just an update (cant believe I didnt see this)

in whm there is a section for adding ip address (duh you dont say) well I added the 2 new ip address that I was sent to this and I have updated the names servers in the edit setup section, I added the ns1 and ns2, then assigned ip address to each and created A recordes, all went ok, however I dont know if what I done is correct so if its wrong please point me in the right direction
