The console ability gives you the ability to ssh into your server on a different ip/port and connect via a serial cable. I have not be able to access it yet but it seems like it will provide some of the capability of the kvm, though I do not think it will work without the server running. Now if you are having some sort of firewall or network trouble there is another way in
As of right now the ip/port in mine is still not working. I have been talking with ev1 about it and they are aware of the problem and working on it.

console link will not initially be available if your dual xeon ( most 2.4s) has a drac. This will come for these servers later at the end of the retrofit.
we will be working through the bugs today.

We're aware of a few problems causing this not to function on all servers, we're still working on it and will update you all again tomorrow morning. Thank you for all your patience and trying it out so that we can debug the issues! Once the initial roll out problems are worked out we will advise you and then start looking into individuals that may not be working.

Thanks for the update, it should be a very nice feature once it comes up.
I know this is going to act sort of like a kvm but I am wondering how much like it. My big question is will this work when the server is rebooting? It would be nice to be able to watch any kernel error or boot problems.
PS- when is the prize for finding it coming

Thank you!!!!!
Working great for me. 3 Servers in DC2.
First time ever I can reboot a Server after a kernel upgrade without worry!.
I can now secure my boxes much better because in case of a lockout I have a console. Excellent.
Its very responsive. Love it....

I don't want to make too many error logins in case BFD locks me out.

On the left side of putty there is a option called "SSH". There is says prefered ssh version, select 1, then go ahead and save the profile.

I got the error when connecting with 1 too. I used the login name :
RS-xxxx-x
NO PORT NUMBER
and it allowed the connection, however both my current root password and the old root password listed in Members section failed to work.
What password do i use...?

i can't wait until it is working - this is a great feature, i just have to nag about something: is it possible to have another password than the one connected to members account (like random chars or something) ?

This is funny - I just got a brute force detection email - someone else (from theplanet) is scanning my box. I thought I'd been locked out. It's funny because i hardly ever get BFD reports.

The password should be listed in the Console section of your member's section, the login format will be like this:
Ex:
Your login is: RS-1234
Port #: 40
Cyclades IP: 10.0.0.1
Password: imapasswordlookatme!
You'd ssh into 10.0.0.1
Login with: RS-1234:7040
password: imapasswordlookatme!
Once it connects, you'll have to tap the enter key again to bring up your login prompt.

Whoo hoo!
Thanks Patrick - it was the 70 in front of the port number that threw me. Slower than normal SSH. Can't wait to try a reboot!

Just tested it out and it works, a little cornfusing (as some Lone Star Statans may say) but works as advertised, a very nice feature indeed.
Like Freddo said its a little slower than normal SSH but alot faster if SSH is not working.
Thanks,

I still don't have this option.

However, I have a DRAC card, so I'm not sure if I still get this.

Initially, if you have a DRAC, you will be the last to get remote console.
Retrofit began at DC2 because it ended up being a lot easier to train the crews. We have learned a lot.
Every server, save those with Dracs, should have r console at DC2. If you have a server at DC2, watch for an email for a "Maintenance Window" when we will be switching you to the new reboot enabled power strips.
Servers at Dc1 will start seeing r console within 10 days, and we plan to have all complete by the end of the year. Re-reboot will start showing up at dc1 by about October 1st in quantity.
While it has not been said publically yet, these services will be 100% FREE for all current and new clients.
We have eliminated the "priority install" program as it would have stalled the general installation.
