Full Version: Memory errors?

Last night's Logwatch e-mail generated something weird, and checking over my /var/log/messages I get the following message:

Aug 27 16:02:31 mika kernel: swap_free: Bad swap offset entry 10000000
Aug 27 16:02:31 mika last message repeated 3 times

A quick search on Google reveals that this may be due to memory errors, and it recommends running Memtest86.

However, that involves fiddling around with lilo.conf and for it to boot into a special stand-alone program, something I'm not too keen on doing.

Can anyone recommend another memory testing program for Linux, or what to do in this case?

I have a Celeron 1.3 with Red Hat Enterprise and 1GB RAM which I bought from the bargain basement.

Thanks.

Use memtester it does not require a reboot.

As far as memtest86 you could also just put in a trouble ticket and ev1 could run it. If memtester does generate some errors put it in a ticket and ev1 should replace the RAM for you icon_smile.gif
