Full Version: ADSL NAT and FTP

I used to have a dial-up connection and was able to upload huge files to my server. Recently I moved to ADSL and a Billion 5100 4 port router. Now uploading via FTP is a no-go. I always get disconnected after 2-3 minutes.

Also Windows updates only work about 50% of the time.

Anyone can point me in a direction to solve these problems - I'm all out of ideas.

Hey,

What ISP are you with?

Bigpond/iiNet/Internode/Westnet?

ISP doesn't matter - its a modem thing I think. I changed the settings to use bridge rather than router (basically changing the router to a modem) and i could upload large files fine (about twice as fast as when it was using NAT) and connect to windows update fine. My interconnection through the router worked fine, I could talk to my other PC. However my other PC couldn't connect to the internet unless I disconnected my main one ie. only one PC could connect at a time.

I found the Billion forums - so maybe I'll find some answers there...

Freddo this 5100, is it the Efficient 5100 ? and if so, is it the A model (4 lites) or the B model (5 lites)?

It does, as some ISP's are now ratelimiting FTP speeds to the non-AU IP ranges to prevent their users from running FTP servers
