Hello,

I have two servers, and I am using a third party to manage my DNS records.

I have an ensim box, and a cpanel box.

My main website is located on the ensim box and I am setting up a backup of the website on the cpanel box.

In my DNS I configured www to point to the IP of the ensim box, and ww2 to point to the IP of the cpanel box.

The ensim box works fine, and nothing has changed.

When I try to go to ww2.mydomain.com I get brought to the cpanel box, but it doesn't recognize what domain I am trying to resolve and throws out the generic webpage "There is no website configured at this address"

On the cPanel box I have edited the DNS zone for mydomain.com and added a CNAME ww2 record to point to 'mydomain.com.'

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jacob

Greetings Jacob:

If ww2.mydomain.com resolves to the right server, and you are getting a default Web server document, then the issue is no longer DNS.

In your web server configuration, do you have

ww2.mydomain.com mydomain.com

and the like set up as server alias for an existing virtual host you set up on the box?

Thank you.
Jacob
I had ww2 setup as an alias.

I just tried putting in ww2.mydomain.com. (cname) mydomain.com

but that doesn't appear to change anything. Like you said I think the DNS part is working fine on the outside (pinging ww2.mydomain.com goes to the cpanel server) I'm just having a hard time telling the cpanel server to recognize ww2.mydomain.com.
