Full Version: I'm stuck! No websites see my server?

Yeah, I'm very new to this and I'm sure I haven't worded this right but I would appreciate any help. I've been at this for over a day now and am completely stumped.

I followed the HOWTO: Cpanel Newbie Guide and when I came to the nameserver part I wanted to keep it simple so I used ns1.ev1servers.net and ns2.ev1servers.net. I don't know if I was suppose to or not, but I clicked the "Add an A entry for this nameserver" link after typing them in.

I also changed my hostname to one of my own: server.mydomain.com and followed all the instructions in the Cpanel Hostname How-To. I rebooted after I was done with everything.

I've added two sites on my server. One of my own which will be the main url for my server (mydomain.com) and one for a friends that I'm going to host (friendssite.com). Mydomain.com hasn't had time to propogate to ev1servers yet, but friendssite.com has long ago, yet it's still not bringing anything up.

Have I missed a setting somewhere?

Also, anytime I log in with an account besides root and then log back in to WHM as root, I will get the following message:

The server was unable to lookup an an A entry for its hostname (sever.mydomain.com). This is generally because the entry was never added. However this could also be the result of your nameserver(s) being down. If you would like to attempt to automaticlly add the entry, click here

Everytime it comes up I click it and if I just continue to login and out as root without ever using another account, it will not pop up that message.

I solved the problem of seeing the WHM message about being unable to lookup an A entry for hostname by following hypershack's advice in this post (basically deleting the zone before adding it again). This seemed to work because the message doesn't pop up anymore, but the weird thing is if I go to "Edit a DNS Zone" in WHM there is no entry listed for my hostname anymore.

I'm still not sure why my friends website that has its DNS settings pointing to ns1.ev1servers.net and ns2.ev1servers.net isn't working.

Here's what the files I've been told to change look like:

/etc/resolv.conf

domain mydomain.com
search mydomain.com
nameserver 127.0.0.1
nameserver 207.218.245.135
nameserver 207.218.247.135

/etc/hosts

XX.XX.XXX.XX server.mydomain.com server
127.0.0.1 localhost

I've also checked to make sure my hostname was listed in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf, /etc/wwwacct.conf, and /etc/sysconfig/network.

I wonder if /etc/nameserverips is a problem. Mine just has my IP with a 0 after it:

XX.XX.XXX.XX=0

Should that be changed to the ns1.ev1servers.net IP?
