Hi,
I just upgraded to a new Dual Xeon 2.4 in DC2.
I found out that I can't upgrade my RAM from 2 Gb to 4 Gb at the moment.
Can someone from ev1 tell us when RAM upgrades would be available in DC2? It's quite urgent for my site that I have more RAM.

Any ETA for RAM stock in DC2?
Cheers

Just so staff know, I did email sales, and it was their advice that I post in these forums and ask management. I found it odd that your sales department would not have the answer, and odder that I have to post in your forums to ask this question, but here I am, and still waiting for an answer.
I hope to get some sort of ETA if that's possible.

Obviously topics got merged, does make my reply look a bit stoopid through :o
Desperately needing some RAM, must admit.

mmcache to the rescue
How long have they been without ram for dc2? I could understand a few days, and maybe even a full week. But this is unreal.

Any updates to the ETA for RAM? My server needs more RAM.

Should've read the fine print regarding the new Dual Xeon 2.4s - I would have stuck with my previous Dual Xeon 2.0s in the old datacenter.

Thank you Robert!
That is very good news!
Is the RAM still expected to be available today?
Is there another ETA we should be aware of?
*I haven't tried ordering yet...just curious*

Just spoke with customer service - "RAM upgrades are not being performed as of yet."
What's up?

Our 512 sticks just shipped from Dell yesterday. The 1 Gb sticks have yet to ship. Both delays due to constrained memory supply.
Upgrades requiring 512 sticks should be Monday. After we get teh 1 GBs, we will be able to do the others.
We have considered choosing an alternate memory supplier but have decided that we are better off having 100% of the memory for DC2 from Dell.

Wise descision.. keeps the warranty you have with Dell intact.
As for non name brand machines ( the white boxes) I would go with Crucial, Kingston, Viking and Corsair.
Those are the only ones I know of that offer lifetime on the RAM and certify it..
might cost more but the way I look at is this... if you DO your business ON it.... 2nd place is not good enough.. buying lower grade equipment to run your business on only hurts you in downtime, failures etc.... which hurts the company reputation.
top flight equipment and parts finish 1st.

Who makes the Dell branded memory?
TFArchive

true, most major brand memory comes with lifetime warranty and is guaranteed to work on dells. No sense paying Dells high prices when I'm sure Kingston/Crucial would love to deal with you.

The only reason I see to get the RAM from Dell is this: Dell will rebrand it and state it has been tested and certified in their machines.. Ergo they cannot go and say "well, you are using 3rd party memory in the machine, so thats what caused the machine to burst into flames" if its ALL DELL parts, DELL has ZERO wiggle room.
It might cost more now, but its that secure feeling of the entact warranty at Dell that makes it worth it

Memory orders finally in at DC2. Both 512 and 1 Gb sticks. We will begin accepting orders for it on Tuesday.
