Are you allowed to irc from ev1 servers? I have seen people doing it... would I be allowed to irc from an ev1 server if I bought one, and ran an irc client, not an irc server or sell shells, just running a client, like @#!@#!@#!@#!@#!x?

From our Acceptable Use Policy:
IRC networks: It is absolutely forbidden to host an IRC server that is part of or connected to another IRC network or server. Servers found to be connecting to or part of these networks will be immediately removed from our network without notice. The server will not be reconnected to the network until such time that you agree to completely remove any and all traces of the irc server, and agree to let us have access to your server to confirm that the content has been completely removed. Any server guilty of a second violation will result in immediate account termination.
---
You can run IRC software, but you cannot connect an IRC server that is connected to any other IRC server or network, even if the two IRC servers reside on the same hosting server.
And as always, be careful, because IRC has this ability to attract abusive users.

If you check the AUP you will see yes you can run an irc client. The big restriction on IRC is that you cannot run a linked ircd. Other then that and the fact that you are not able to have long vanity hosts you can run an irc client.
Of course always try to avoid getting DDOSS'ed though the new firewall ev1 has is apparently working pretty good.

Ah right, so a B + itchX client would be okay?
And I supose an offline eggdrop hub bot would be fine also... correct?
I see a user on EFnet ircing from 66.98.164.44, using B + itchX, is that okay?

of course! Thats a irc client not a daemon.
so of course you can connect to irc via your box.. just no running an irc network

Aaron should win a prize for becoming the first EV1 employee to finally just answer that question. Seemed like all the times its been asked before, EV1 people were making sure to ignore / avoid it.
Thanks for giving a reference to use the next time that debate pops up, Aaron.
