Full Version: Why does Qmail/Plesk accept every email?
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > Plesk
Ophelus
I've been playing/testing with the Qmail/Plesk 6 settings and the server accepts every incoming message (there not going through so far but) without giving a 550 error.. is this just something normal for qmail or what.. does it actually take the message as in you lose transfer??

I guess when I test a mail server and it's set to closed relay.. I accept it to say error 550?

I don't remember what the defaults are anymore as I've been using Plesk too long, however the default ages ago had everything set as an open relay. I assume this is what you're talking about Ophelus.

In the control panel under Server > Mail make sure you have Authorization Required at the very most. You can completely close the relay too, but that can be problematic for clients. I have mine set to Require Authorization and have a POP3 Lock Time of 20 minutes. That seems to work pretty well for everybody.

Also, check your White List in that same section. In the old days that used to have 127.0.0.1/8 White Listed. That setting is going to leave you running an open relay no matter what is set at the top. If you need scripts to be able to send mail from the server White List 127.0.0.1/32. The scripts will work fine and you won't be sitting there with an open relay.

That fixed it thanks.. (I think, now I'm not sure it was broken on testing) now I'm having SSH/FTP problems all of the sudden.. but I'll see if I can handle this one
