Sorry for the horrible subject guys...
but any of you know how to close an smtp exchange 2003 server open relay... Bill's boys have never heard of keeping things to any sort of standard, and moved / changed the face of exchange once again..
doing my nut in, and everyone refers to 2000 or 5.5 exchange..
worst bit yet is it's more than likley a tick box burried somewhere.
cheers

By default the relaying is restricted only to the authenticated users (ie, people that have accounts on your machine).
If you have changed that, you can restrict the relaying options under the:
Start > All Programs > Microsoft Exchange > System Manager > Administrative Group > First Administrative Group > Servers > Your Server > Protocols > SMTP
Right click on the Default SMTP Server > Access > Relay..
This is where it gets tricky. By default, the list is empty - you probably added *.* in it. If thats the case, remove it.
If the list is empty and you don't even want to allow your authenticated users to relay.. Clear the checkmark under Allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay, regardless of the list above.
