Full Version: Do DNS server ips need reverse pointers?
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > cPanel/WHM
dunno
Do DNS server IPs require reverse DNS? Or is it just for the host IP?
oanielsen
Just for the main IP on the box
dunno
That's what I'd thought but some people have been trying to convince me that DNS IPs need reverse DNS as well. You'll find some people here saying so as well.

I wonder if any other server admins can give positive confirmation.

it's highly recommended that the IP you're using for the mail server has reverse DNS, otherwise messages can get rejected by some ISPs (e.g. AOL)

The way I see it, you "should" have reverse zones created for your nameservers. It's not a necessity to have them resolve and work. Does anyone know if there's a common practice with this? I have dedicated reverse zones for all my ns.xxx records set.
