How do i download a FULL backup of everything, as im going to attempt a kernel upgrade and the first step tells me to backup, how do i do this?

In WHM under the Back up Tab

configure Backup and set the paramiters

I would recomend using a remote FTP server becase if you hose the kernel upgrade and have to restore your sites will be safely storeed on a different hard drive

But that doesnt download one, there and then, is there a way to do that?

will run the script

it will downloaded to the FTP server you have specified


PS if you dont have another FTP server to download to PM me and I will tell you how to back it up and download

Make sure if you do a backup over ftp that the files are all intact! I have see the backups not performed correctly many times by cpanel.


You may look at ws_ftp if you want to download them to your home computer. It will allow you to connect via scp which is basically file transfer over ssh so you can login directly as admin or root and get the files.
