I installed it myself from layer1 and never got it working correctly. I ended up getting banned by my own ISP because of all the root notifications. I tried to uninstall it myself and broke exim. I ended up hiring one of the gurus who roam this wonderful board and had them do it for me.

Everything is 100% again!

I uninstalled it, it's ok!

How'd you get rid of it?

There is a scripts called uninstall that comes with the .tar.gz just run it and should have no problems. I have run it a few times and never had any issues. I run mailscanner on most of my servers because it is pretty effective at filtering spam and virus.

Nick (cpanel developer) is working on a new set of virus/spam tools that will is in the works. No word on when, but hopefully soon

the current clamd and spamassasin that come with cpanel & are on layer1 are VERY cpu intensive.

Infact, if you have a a single CPU server running say, 100 websites, you really need another CPU just for the antivirus software (clamd), as it just seems to chug up cpu like there's no tomorrow.

Same goes with HDD utilisation.

I have a server with 100 sites on it that does 10-15gb of transfer per month, (P4 2.8C) but the load average is at almost 1.00 24/7 because of MailScanner & spamassasin

Our exim mail server seems to be crashing with the mailScanner and causes all mails to be failed to sent to the users. As a result, we have disabled MailScanner on the server by renaming the MailScanner configuration and restoring the original exim.conf file.

I am not installing the MailScanner from the cpanel but manually from downloading the source and compile and have follow the steps as on cpanelplus.com .

How can I completely uninstalling the MailScanner on the mail server ?
