Hi all.

This is a quite long post, but please read this as i am in a bad situation..

I am an ultra newbie with no idea about any ssh command and dns functions.

I am running a very small hosting campaign as a reseller of a big company. But now i decided to get a new dedicated server and make more profit but i am a great newbie and my server is not running and is a big loss

I have my own nameservers and want to use them.Lets say these are ns1.xxxx.com and ns2.xxxx.com and my current hosting site is xxxx.com. All these settings are working with my reseller plan on another server. Now i want to use the same nameservers with my new ev1 server. I set the nameservers as ns1.xxxx.com with whm using "edit setup" link. i set the host name as server6.xxxx.com using the link "change hostname".

Now whenever i log in my whm as root i see a pop window telling me that the settings for my hostname is wrong. and asks me to ad an A entry. i clicked on the link and it says there is already an A entry I deleted it and re-entered for several times but the error keeps still!

I also got ndc:connection error and try to use ndcfix.(i saw that on this board. I still have no idea about what ndc is )
I still got that ndc errors while i try to restart BIND. it says:

rndc: connection to remote host closed This may indicate that the remote server is using an older version of the command protocol, this host is not authorized to connect, or the key is invalid.
----

i think this server(ev1 one) can not reach to the other one(which my current site and reseller plan runs on)..There has to be a key an authorize..but how will i set all these???

Both servers are cPanel...My reseller server(which also runs the nameserver) is the master server and this(ev1servers) one will be the slave. But how??

Can you please help me to set the basic DNS settings. After making the neccessary settings to run the new hosting accounts on this new server, i will start to (or try to) secure the server but first i need to make it run...

If you know nothing about running a server you should not have jumped right into it. It takes time and practice (and lots of reading and research) to get to a point where you can run a web hosting business smoothly.

I'd suggest hiring an admin, at least to get your bot up and secured. Keep him/her on call for emergencies as well. I'd even get a second box to play with if you wanna learn.

i agree with hostedzone you should not dive head first if you do not know what your doing



I am not totally sure about this one but I thing you need root access to the master and sync the DNS records

and if your moving your sites off one Cpanel box why don't you just set up your own DNS
