Whenever I send email to any test hotmail.com accounts, it gets filtered off as spam. I'm not running an open relay and I checked for any ORDB entries and I was clean.
Could this be a reverse dns issue..?
I'm confused. Anyhelp would be great.

I know that aol filters email out of if the reverse dns does not match the hostname of the server, have you set this up via ev1? If you have not login to the members section and on your primary ip put in a ptr (aka rdns) record for it.

Thanks eth00,
I've had a ptr entry for my rdns for a long long time. So this brings up the question: Did I set it up right?
Is there a faq on here I am missing? I poked around
http://www.dnsstuff.com/info/revdns.htm and basically got the jist of it.
I'm using on my primary ip. mail.hostname.com
What else would I need to check?

On the dnsstuff.com page goto
DNS lookup Enter domain/host name ?
Look up a DNS record (A, MX, NS, SOA, etc.)
Then put in your ip and see if it does in fact resolve correctly. Sometimes it is not setup correctly.

Interesting.
I popped in my ip and I'm not getting any results for it. I went back into the rackshack area and readded it (plus entries for my nameservers which didn't have any).
I guess I wait now and see if the changes go through?
My nick has nothing to do with the EOD services in the military/government.

Just a nick I've been dragging around since my early bbs days.

Try using the "Reverse DNS lookup" that might work. If its not working then yes you have to wait I forget how long it will take for the ptr to fully distribute but should only be a few hours for dnsstuff.com. I am pretty sure ev1 resets their dns only four times a day.

Interesting. It shows the correct rdns, which is the same rdns entry I've had for months. If I send an email to my work server (exchange 5.5 no rdns checks, no spam checks...yet) gets there instantly.
If I send to a hotmail account, it ends up in the junk folder.
Even though I get a rdns answer, could I still have done it wrong?

Oh it gets in the junk folder, well that might just be part of hotmails filtering. If its physically making it there I think you have done pretty much all you can unfortunatly. Somebody with more experience with hotmail might have some more luck but I am not sure you can do more.

I've got a test hotmail account and stuff sent from my EV1 server gets there in my in box just fine.. It's got to be in your filter settings..

Ack, something I did killed my rdns setup.
66.98.x.x PTR record: mail.domain.com. [TTL 28000s] [A=None] *ERROR* A record does not point back to original IP. RFC1912 2.1 disallows CNAMEs.
How did a cname entry muscle it's way in there?

Cpanel by default uses cnames for the mail.domain.com maybe that is causing some trouble? Check in the dns management and see if that is the case.
