Full Version: How does home2 work in CPanel?
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > cPanel/WHM

I just got a second drive, and it is mounted as /home2. I have been searching through the posts and noticed one that mentions the ability to rearrange the accounts. I then went into WHM and clicked on Rearrange an Account in Account functions. When I chose an account to rearrange, the next screen showed /home2 in a dropdown.

Now my questions/concerns are:

Is /home2 used inherently by cPanel?

If it is, if you configure backups to use /home2 in WHM, does it recursively back itself up?

I am wondering if it makes sense to have the second drive mounted as /home2, if I want to use it to run backups.

Should it be changed to something else for backup purposes

Any comments are appreciated.

if you want to use the other drive for backups, then use /backup and not /home2

the backup config can mount the drive for the backup then umount it after the backup even

Cpanel puts a new site on whichever has more space when you create an account.

I would suggest that you use the other for backup unless you need the space for the home directories. Yes it could do recursive if you used a home dir for a backup...not a good thing!
