Full Version: cPanel service not working
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > cPanel/WHM

This morning I've been bombarded by emails alerting me that cpanel, cpop, and webmail have failed. All webpages are still being servered, but I cannot login to cPanel or WHM and email doesn't work.

When I attempt to login to WHM (no login prompt, just this on the page) I get this displayed:

Content-type: text/plain

X-DES-KEY: generate error
Invalid Lisc File

When I try to go to cPanel, the pages do not even display.

I've gone in and tried to manually restart the cpanel service, and this is what I get:

Stopping cPanel services: [ OK ]
Stopping webmail services: [ OK ]
Stopping pop3 services: [ OK ]
Stopping cPanel log services: [FAILED]
Stopping cPanel Chat services: [ OK ]
Stopping Melange Chat services: [ OK ]
Stopping InterChange services: [FAILED]
Stopping cPanel ssl services: [ OK ]
Stopping Web Host Manager services: [ OK ]

Stopping mailman services: Shutting down Mailman's master qrunner

Starting eximstats: [ OK ]

Starting cPanel Chat services: [ OK ]
Starting Melange Chat services: [ OK ]
Starting cPanel ssl services: [ OK ]
Starting Web Host Manager services: [ OK ]

When I check the cpanel service status, I get this reply:

cpaneld is stopped
entropychat (pid 2736) is running...
melange (pid 2741) is running...
stunnel is stopped
interchange is stopped
whostmgrd (pid 2768) is running...
qrunner (pid 2779 2778 2777 2776 2775 2774 2773 2017 2015 2014 2013 2011 2010 2009) is running...

I've restarted the machine to no avail. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. If you need any more information, just ask.

Thanks.

The exact same thing happened to me this morning. I submitted a trouble ticket about it, and this was the RS reply:

Dear Customer,

Usually, the fix for this license error is to run
/usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt

This tries to cycle out the license on the server. In this case, the
cycle was not working. The only way to resolve this was by doing the
following:

this file had to be removed:
/usr/local/cpanel/cpanel, and then /scripts/cpup had to be run to refresh
the license.

WHM is now accessible, and your email appears to be working. I tested
this by creating a test email account on ***, and tested both sending
and receiving. It was working both ways. If you have further issues,
please let us know.

Thank you,

Looks like I'm not the only one that's had this problem.

From the discussions in the cPanel.net forums it seems this was definitely not an isolated issue. Thankfully it was a pretty simple fix.

Thanks a lot. That fixed it!
