Plesk 7 will be released soon... I've received a Beta, and I'm very impressed...

You can find screenshots here: http://www.kyona.net/plesk7

There's -alot- that's added in this release... but please, Headsurfer, make sure we get the full package this time! Plesk7 offers -much- more than Plesk6, but like Plesk6, some of the things are all dependant on the key, e.g. you have to buy the additional components.

Seeing as we couldn't buy those additional components with the EV1 Plesk6 license, try to do anything you can so we get a 'full' license this time, okay? icon_smile.gif Or give us some options... or something icon_smile.gif

A new list of features:

[+] New interface design with greatly improved usability.
[+] The path bar was added at the top of each page to simplify navigation through the interface.
[+] The self-descriptiveness of lists increased substantially.
[+] Application Vault - repository for site applications added.
[+] Application Pack with several pre-packaged popular applications added.
[+] Mambo CMS integrated into Plesk installation as Site Builder.
[+] ColdFusion support added.
[+] SpamAssassin spam filter support added.
[+] Subdomains support added.
[+] Private folder for sensitive data added.
[+] Trouble Ticketing System added.
[+] @domains support added.
[+] Ability to control Plesk CP sessions via Plesk interface added.
[+] Information about components versions added in Plesk interface.
[+] Ability to have many CP sessions simultaneously under one login is controllable now.
[+] Information about memory usage added in Plesk interface.
[+] Ability to manage custom buttons via Plesk interface added.
[-] Major bugfixing.

Can't wait till it's out!

I am not totally thrilled about the "XP" look that they joined the band wagon on, but I love the additional features.

I want this upgrade.

The new features are certinally welcomed and I can't wait. However some of the previous posters have some very good points...

1) Spam control (AWSOME) however its not included in the base and if there isn't a way to upgrade my license with Ev1 (RS) then I'm going to be a VERY UNHAPPY customer, becasue so will my customers. ;-) I'm certinally willing to pay also. So I say to the powers that be... PLEASE allow us the ability to either upgrade our licenses (buy "powerpacks") or if you deem us worthy include it in the Ev1 (RS) license. :-)

2) I completely agree about the look and feel, however, it is pretty intuitive, and anything that makes it easier for my clients and easier on me is welcomed. PS I hear they finally allow you to build custom skins, which will allow me to at least tone down the XP look and feel.

I love the new look and new features. I was actually wondering recently when Plesk would drop that old style that was somewhat confusing and looked outdated to me. I can't wait to see servers with the new version at EV1.

All the extra features will be free if RS upgrades their license before March 1st (I assume they have a SUS).

Soo... let's not make the same mistake we did with Plesk6 now, okay? icon_smile.gif

There's a classic Plesk silver theme, uses the Plesk 6 buttons in a silver-coloured theme. Looks less XP like icon_wink.gif

That's not true - that's the case for normal users, EV1 are a Plesk partner and standard promotions may not apply to contracted partners in the same way. It's totally dependant on contract.

I think plesk 7 is dead ...
Swsoft will lost all of is customer...

Paying somewhat like 1500$US is ridiculous !
I will start swaping my server to ensim soon !

There is not a lot of plesk user outhere and they will loose
the customer they have already...

I disagree completely - Plesk 7 is the best yet, and certainly beats the competition in my eyes. Sounds more like something I'd think of Ensim as (dead).

Seen the price of CPanel lately? I'd much rather pay for a CP my customers like, and one that is reliable.

Disagree here too ... SWsoft are a huge power in the HSP software market, Plesk 7 will shine through.

Go SWSOFT go rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

If we dont get all the features with our ev1 upgrade license then my next box will be RHE Plain and i'll install my own server management software and drop plesk. I've been using Plesk since version 1 (on turbo linux icon_smile.gif) and have liked it but they are starting to price themselves out of the market for what they are providing.

I'm seriously thinking about switching to psofts h-sphere as it has everything integrated and you can buy the license on a per-user bases at just $4.50 per user. You can find it cheaper if you go thru one of there partners. That system includes a complete billing system, ordering system, support system, multi-tier server management console and is themeable. You can also add there sitebuilder for $1.50 per user. Plus its easily scalable to multiple servers and allows you to interconnect your windows / linux boxes to one billing management system. It even supports VPS servers. You can have the software on 1 server or 100 servers, you still only pay your per user charge.

I'm sure you'll be hearing about this soon, but Plesk 7 is here, launched today. I'm installing it on some of my non-ev1 machines this weekend. Can't wait.

Arg. I just got my Key for Plesk 7, but I just read Plesk 7 requires Redhat 7.3. I'm still sitting at 7.2.

Whats the best way to upgrade?

Thanks,
Den

Its probally best you upgrade to RHEL (Red Hat Enterprize Linux) all of the RH 6, 7, 8, and soon 9 are EOL (end of life) which basically means that no more patches or bug fixes will be released. Basically means your servers could be compromized anytime a new bug or hack is found. I belive Ev1 provides documentation on the RHEL upgrade process.

That is a bit easier said than done.

The process involves obtaining the drive with RHE on it from EV1, backing up the current drive, installing Plesk 6 onto the new drive, uploading all the data to the new drive, then upgrading Plesk 6 to Plesk 7. This will be about 5 hours of downtime with the amount of data on my server.

BTW, has anyone put together a how to on doing this? (I've read through the docs but am a bit nervous about doing this for the first time on a production server.)

Also, RH 7 and 8 support will continue at: http://www.fedoralegacy.org/
