Howdy,
We are in the process of collecting information about our domain registration and our domain management processes.
If you have any comments or suggestions about the domain system and how it can be improved, please let us know in this thread.

It'd be nice to have "default nameservers" So I could set those, and any domains I register will be given those nameservers, instead of ns1/ns2.ev1servers.net.

- Batch processing (Changing owner info, name servers, etc)
- Possibility to renew domains. Although I understand that it is coming soon.
Or just steal how dotster does it and keep the price the same
Also I just transfered a couple of domains and expected to be able to specify the name servers. Not sure if this is the case, but I really don't want to be able to do that after the domain has transfered and have some domain visitors fall into a blackhole.

Regarding nameservers on a domain transfer:
When you initiate a registrar transfer (domain transfer) your account information (Owner, Admin, Billing and Technical) as well as Nameservers remain the same, to insure that you have no downtime from the transition. Once the transfer is complete you can log in to your account at
https://domains.ev1servers.net and use the Nameservers section to modify them.

Jan 27 2004, 04:54 PM
All right. That sounds like the way it should be done.
Maybe you want to mention that somewhere in the transfer process or at least in the FAQ to inform people like me that are frantic about not having their domain drop of the map.

I just don't see ev1 domain services being an option for our company because you don't have bulk registration, transfer management.
Currently, the sytem is far to clumsy.. and there are many registrars out there where we can get $7.00 domains and have much more amangement control.
I really wish ev1 would take the time on the domain front and really develop a sopisticated system.
Good Luck.

We offer both bulk domain registration AND domain transfers at
https://domains.ev1servers.net/cgi-bin/reg_system.cgi.

You probably want to remove the full stop from that url
As for suggestions, more tld's would be nice. I'd find the .uk ones particularly useful.

Maybe not alienating all Australian customers would be a good start.

We have 7 servers with Ev1, and around 20 domains. *OUR* stuff isn't fraudulent...
I figured this would attract some more stupid replies.

Contact someone from live support before placing an order and give them your IP just and idea, not sure if it will help though.

IMHO- I think in order for this to become a service in which I transfer all my domains over (quite a few).. It would really have to be more user friendly and intuitive within my Members section.
I really would like to use ev1 but the setup is not structured for easy management.

Last I checked it is not possible to have all the domains held under one account, but still allow each domain to be registered to a different company. Its nice just to log in once and manage all the domains from a drop down list etc.
Again another request for .uk. In my opion
www.123-reg.co.uk has one of the better control panels out there. Apart the quick and comprehensive interface, I particularly like their 90-day renewal reminder email they also have the option to setup new accounts for clients in which you can transfer their domains into for free... i.e. if they decide they want to control them.
You can create an account with 123-reg for free if you want to check it out.

Not a stupid reply, just remember where the internet is concerned everyone from a particular country is tarred with the same brush, whether their business is legal or not.

You can add multiple nameservers, its just that you can only add then 2 at a time. If you keep adding the nameservers, it will keep accepting them.

Tried it, will only accept 2 nameservers, if you try and update it, it removes the previous 2, and adds the new ones.

Please email what you want done to your domain to
domains@ev1servers.net. Explain that you already tried to do it yourself... we'll see if we can work it out from our end.

I just added 4 more name servers.
Primary: 207.218.223.132 Remove
Secondary: 207.218.223.162 Remove
Nameserver 3: 207.218.247.135 Remove
Nameserver 4: 207.218.245.135 Remove
Nameserver 5: 216.88.76.6 Remove
Nameserver 6: 216.88.77.7 Remove
As long as you don't check remove it won't remove/replace the others.
As far as I can see you can add as many "Valid Name Servers" as you want.

Hmmm......
"What is the renewal price next year?
The renewal rate for domains will be announced soon. The renewal rate will be very competitive to the current wholesale market on domains when rates are published."
So you're going to be pushing the price up even higher for renewals (after already increasing the price once)?

I'm logging in -> Nameservers -> Delete (not the remove option) the current 2, enter a new set (verify the delete is not selected) make changes, go back to view, the new two are only there, the old two are gone.
I think I'm missing the obvious?

It really sounds like you are doing something wrong. Are you doing this:
1) Go to
https://domains.ev1servers.net/cgi-bin/manage.cgi and log in to your domain
2) Click on "Name Servers"
3) Using the form for - Adding New Name Servers - , enter the nameservers 1 hostname at a time and click "Add Name Servers"
When the nameserver addition is processed correctly, you should see a note that says "Nameserver added." when the page refreshes.
BTW, if you are seeing a "Delete" option, you are not ad the page that adds nameservers to a domain, you are on the "create or modify a nameserver" page, which registers active nameservers based on your domain name.
https://domains.ev1servers.net/cgi-bin/mana...age_nameservers
instead of
https://domains.ev1servers.net/cgi-bin/mana...ify_nameservers
So far, I have not been limited in the number of nameservers a domain can use nor in the number of nameservers I can register for that domain.

My suggestion:
I for one would like to see an API and perhaps even a program to work with the API so I can resell the domains from my site (the way I'm currently doing it with Enom and DRAMS).
Thanks for listening.

Yeah if you had a way to interface to an API like I am currently doing with DRAMS and Enom, then I would move my couple hundred domains to you guys. I need to let my customers have control of there domains from there control panel.

Yeah! that's what I'm looking for too! Is there any domain registrar that provide that? Is ev1 going to offer that?!
sruli
Feb 16 2004, 07:33 AM
There certainly are registrars that do that. The one I'm currently using is Enom (
http://www.enom.com) and they have a pretty decent API.
The software I'm using to interface to Enom is called DRAMS (
http://www.dramsystem.com) and I find it to be pretty good (though I must admit I liked the old version better).
Using this system I created my own web site as a subset of my hosting site to sell domains. If this kind of functionality were available through EV1 I'd be very interested in it.

Feb 16 2004, 07:41 AM
How much does it cost to register a domain thru the enom api?
Does it have any monthly cost? Its not really clear at the web site, I've seen someplace on his web that they sell domains at 29$ dollars each, wich is not acceptable at all!!!.
Thank you!
sruli
Feb 16 2004, 07:46 AM
When you become a reseller of Enom, you can get prices as low as $6.95 per year. This requires a large deposit and may not be possible for many people (but check ebay, sometimes people sell their old $6.95 Enom accounts there, caveat emptor).
If you get DRAMS, they offer a $7.95 reseller account for free.
Miso
Feb 16 2004, 07:54 AM
Do you know what the deposit is for domains in ENOM for 6.95.
Also.. EV1 has not been clear about Domain Pricing in the future..
I would hat to move domains here and next year domain Registration is $8. I don't want to spen time moving domains around.
btauler
Feb 16 2004, 07:58 AM
But, just one question,
Drams is the web interface to register domains thru e-nom, am I right?
I do not want a prebuilt domain registration pages, I only want the API so I can program myself the registration zone.
I suppose that leaves me the enom option, Am I right?
sruli
Feb 16 2004, 09:49 AM
Miso: I think if you get it straight from Enom it's something like a $6k or $7k deposit required. I've seen it on ebay for between $300 and $400 (but that money goes to the seller and you start with an empty account).
btauler: Yes, in theory there's no reason you can't do your own interface to the Enom API and *not* buy DRAMS.

In all fairness, since the Owner contact email address is the email address of the owner of the domain, they should be getting that information...

most of us who are purchaing unmanaged servers from EV1 are companies that are already resellers of domain registrars.
We are currently purchasing services from various registrars depending on the price / service / features. From my experience I have seen that EV1 has always offered us the best pricing at all points of time.
I have my fingers crossed - and do hope that EV1 is considering the possibility of becoming an ICANN Accredited registrar themselves. This would allow EV1 to give us the best possible rates.
Mainly, it does give me a far more comfort factor in purchasing domain names from EV1 if it were a Domain Registrar itself instead of being a reseller of a Domain Registrar. This would also assure me that I would get the same renewal rates as there is no external factor such as the possibility of a change in pricing of the current registrar.

I had the order form flake out on me when I tried to transfer to EV1... I sent an e-mail as the error message indicated. I got a follow up e-mail asking me what specific domain I tried to transfer, then heard nothing more...
Not a very convincing experience... I'm a bit affraid to try it again.

Is there a way to renew multiple domains at once?
It would be nice to be able to check a box next to a dozen domains that are coming up for renewal close to the same time and renew them all at once instead of having to enter credit card details, etc. for each one at at a time.
