Full Version: cPanel Admin File Manager?
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > cPanel/WHM

Hello, I'm a complete newbie so please bear with me. We just purchased a Pentium Intel 4 2.0 RH Enterprise with cPanel reimage and we cannot figure out how to get to the File Manager. We are not planning on reselling and will be the only domain on the server.

Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

umm there is no main "file manager" its called ssh which is basically a dos prompt. Each domain has a file manager type program with cpanel.

You *could* allow ftp on the box but thats a very very very big no no. If you really want full acess look around for windows clients that support "scp" which would allow you to login as root and browse the box. Overall though ssh is the best option.

Thank you, eth00, that makes sense. If I understand correctly, if I create an account for the domain that I'm setting up above /admin on the server, the cpanel for the account will have the File Manager program?

edited to add: I just tried to add the sole domain by creating a new account but came back with an error. I input the domain, the password, checked the IP box (there wasn't any place for me to input the IP address), and left the other defaults alone.

Sounds like you may have some things setup incorrectly in your main WHM config. Make sure you have your main IP set as the master shared IP address for accounts.

Went back and reviewed what I did to create the account and decided to NOT check the IP box, and the account was created. But it still had an error (I've obviously edited out the sensitive stuff), which I've highlighted as bold text:

What happened?

Basically the file is named wrong. However you have a bad cpanel rhe image, a new one should be coming out soon and you should put in a trouble ticket to have it reimaged (should be free because they screwed the image up).
SueK
Thank you so much, eth00. We've put in a trouble ticket and hopefully, they respond soon.
eth00
So far no update on it, I am waiting on a new image as well...waiting is so fun.
SueK
Ack! ev1 is trying to install the new cpanel image and they're having problems doing so (we have RHE). They've been helpful in waiving fees normally associated with a priority restore (since this problem was their's initially and nothing we'd done) but it has now been some 4 hours and still no progress.

And to top it all off, my .htaccess file prohibiting hotlinking is not working on this server! icon_sad.gif
