Full Version: Point abc.com to existing xyz.com domain
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > cPanel/WHM

I have 2 domain names, the long named version (abcdefg.com) is already set up with HTML content on the server. I now wish to point the shorter domain name (ab.com) to the existing content of abcdefg.com, such that:

(a) duplication of content is not required; and
(b) links such as ab.com/forum will correctly point to the content that would also be served up for abcdefg.com/forum, while retaining the short ab.com/forum as the URL in the browser bar.

What combination of things must I perform in WHM and/or Cpanel to accomplish such domain pointing? I'm using name-based hosting from one IP, rackshack DNS servers.

Many thanks.

Via WHM, you should be able to do the following:
- Go to "Park or Point a Domain" under DNS Functions
- Type in the domain abcdefg.com in the "Domain to park on top of" field
- Type in the domain ab.com in the "Domain to park" field

Note: The ab.com dns/ip needs to point to the same IP as abcdefg.com

Thanks for your suggestion.

I've done as you suggest, but on clicking "Do It" the page changes to a blank page with "Results of your request" at the top and nothing else shown. Clicking on List Parked Domains reveals an empty list. Visiting www.ab.com doesn't work.

I'm using rackshack DNS servers, does this make a difference? All the A records setup under DNS Configuration in the RackShack members area point to the main (only) IP for both abcdefg.com and ab.com, as you suggested.

Is there something else to try or an alternative way, perhaps?

Many thanks for your help,

Chris
