Hi,
I have just setup my first Helm server which came with the MailEnable package. I would like to setup their WebMail but it lacks some nice features such as a "Spell Checker".
I looked at some other possibilities such as Merak Mail. Merak's web interface does have spell checker etc and the look n feel is much neater.
I would like to know if Helm works with Merak Mail?
Thanks,
Vasco

Yes it does, we are running it. Best thing to do is run Merak on a separate ip so you can run it as
http://mail.userdomain.com instead of
http://mail.userdomain.com:32000/mail. It works with HELM. We are running 5.9.4 and not upgrading because HELM + MERAK are not working all that great with the latest version.

I am using MailEnable already and have setup the accounts. If I move to Merak or some other one - I will have to redo the stuff again right?
I saw on Helm's site - they claim it works with SmartMail, MailEnable, Ipswitch and Merak. I do not forsee hosting more than 25-30 domains in the next 2 years and a total of lets say 1500 email accounts. Can you suggest which one is a good option for the price-performace...
Thanks in advance.

Price-Performance for most people is won by MailEnable Standard, then use a webmail client that supports pop3 interfaces.
IMail (IPSwitch) is definitely the best, but VERY expensive.

OK I think I understand.
What about the redoing part? If I were to switch from MailEnable to something else - will I have to redo the accounts?
Does the EV1 tech staff help you to make such a switch - i.e. from say MailEnable to Merak?
Thanks in advance.

yes, you'll most likely need to re-do the config, unless you find a priceless tool to automate the switch.
These are unmanaged boxes, and EV1 won't help with the switch.

I tried searching for Helm upgrades. EV1's site does not say much. Neither does WebHostAutomation. Can you tell me where I can find the 3.1.12 upgrade patch. Do I have to pay for this?
Thanks.

I am a bit confused now. I signed up with that URL above and got a username and password. I was able to login and try to download updates.
The website says it is update version 3.1.8 and says thats the "latest" update. However, if you click on the "Details" it says the latest version is 3.1.11. Now I already have 3.1.11 and I am trying to obtain 3.1.12.
Is there a 3.1.12 released at all? I am confused as the website does not say anything beyond 3.1.11....

Im thinking of offering Squirrelmail as the GUI for Merak instead of using theirs. Since it supports IMAP Squirrelmail is very doable.

You need to register to login and then you need to upgrade to 3.1.8 from 3.1.7. Once you have 3.1.8, then you can use the "Update Software" button in helm to update to 3.1.12. It works pretty smooth.
3.1.12 is available and I am running it.

I already have 3.1.11 and I tried to use the Update Software button. But I get a message saying "To make this update the Config Tool will be closed".
And when I say ok to that it throws an error saying "Error 429. ActiveX cannot create an object"
Thats quite baffling.

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs -> Windows Componets -> Internet Explorer Enahnce Security Configuration
Uncheck it to uninstall. (99.999% sure that is your problem.)
