Rackshack, Plesk 2.5 is out is there anyway us Plesk 2.0 users can update to this new version?
KyleKL
It's not out from what I've read. It is scheduled for March 7th. You will be able to download it from www.plesk.com. In order to install it, you will need to first back-up all of your sites using the Plesk backup/restore utilities. Then, you will need to completely uninstall Plesk. Then install PSA 2.5, and restore your virtual sites from your backup file.

Kind of scary if you have a lot of sites!!! I really wish they made an upgrade script of some kind...

As far as I know there arn't any NEW features, just updated versions of apache, proftpd, etc.

Providing you have a valid licence key anyone can upgrade to v2.5, it's a free upgrade to all existing Plesk customers. Although I'll be trying it on one of my test servers first as I've spent quite a while getting my v2.0 install to how I want it.

In addition to upgrading the various pieces of software, there are some bug fixes. There's one in particular I'm anxious to see: allowing SMTP relaying using Auth from Eudora. Broken in PSA 2.0... apparently fixed in 2.5

I have a password and 2.5 is not yet available for download.

2.5 is NOT officially "out" yet.

According to what I've read on the Plesk forums, there should be a press release and the release of 2.5 mid-next week-around the 12th or so.

Also from what I've heard, it will be a free upgrade, but you have to backup the whole server, install 2.5, then, worst case scenario, re-install all the sites.

Is it really worth getting version 2.5?

yes. eveything is upgraded

MrLister is right, but to be more specific:

If you upgrade to PSA 2.5, not only are you getting enhanced functionality and bug fixes in the Plesk control panel, but it will upgrade all the associated pieces of software: apache, ProFTPd, qmail, BIND, PHP, etc. So just for those updates alone, it is probably worth it. Another thing is that PSA 2.5 _explicitly_ supports RedHat 7.2, whereas PSA 2.0 didn't officially support it. This might be nice for those of us who want to try our hand at upgrading our 7.1 box to 7.2 and keeping Plesk.

Of course, then RS support won't even talk to you if you do upgrade to 2.5

Nothing against RS support, but my whole reason for getting a dedicated box was so that I could manage it. The only support I'll probably need would be the occasional reboot and possibly (God forbid!) a restore if things get really bad.

I suspect there are quite a few like me here: very willing to take full responsibility for their box other than a remote reboot on occasion.

Anyway, I switched to dedicated hosting so that I could have a box that I could be in complete control of (as opposed to previously reselling virtual hosting accounts, which required support requests just to change email aliases *grrr*). So if I decide to upgrade my box in any way I choose, it's my perogative. The only caveat being: if it isn't RH 7.1, I might not get any RS tech support other than reboots & restores.

"Caveat Emptor!"

Try http://www.plesk.com/ ... there's lots of information there.

I think all of RackShack's servers use the "plain" (non-RPM) version of Plesk.

There are upgrade instructions at plesk.com but I'd be careful - you could seriously mess something up if something goes wrong.

In particular, I'm not sure how to retain your license key when moving from one version to the next - you might need RS's help with that. On the other hand I trashed my /usr/local/psa the other day and reinstalled Plesk 2.0 and it recognized my key (stored in /etc/psa I think) with no trouble.
