I have dozens of domain names with EV1, but when I tried to register my first .info, I got the following error return:

your address could not be verified. The address must match your account information exactly. Please check your information and try again.
Does it mean that RackShack now verifies CREDIT CARD address with that of the Billing Contact or am I missing something? Thanks.

That is correct. In order to verify the credit card, the form uses a few different criteria but one of those is an address verification based on the Billing Contact information as listed on the order form.

Thanks for your reply, Aaron. But it was NOT like that, right? There were discussions about .biz and .info listing Billing Contact info (such as Address) that many registrants would like to avoid. That's why I use a business address which is different from the personal, credit card account address. So is it now impossible to do so? Thanks again.
P.S. I lost a second-tier one-word .info last night.

The credit card authorization happens at the time of the purchase, though. You are still free to modify your billing contact information after the fact.

Thanks again for your prompt reply. But then my Billing Contact Address (a.k.a. my personal, credit card account address) will be submitted to .info registry and made available on the whois for the whole world to retrieve BEFORE I could do any modification. And we all know that ONCE something is on the net, it's indexed by someone else. Hmm ... perhaps I should just stay away from .info and .biz from now on. Or if anyone (Aaron or fellow forum members) has some good idea as to how to tackle this, please render your opinion. Thanks.

We will continue to look into this issue for everyone.

Some other registrars ... er hm ... actually ask for the credit card account matching address in an additional, separate field other than the Billing Contact. Just some thoughts.

This is good idea, we will work on the change. Just a few more fields to fill in.

I had this problem with a CC which had worked with EV1 previously.
Switched to another CC and it went through fine.
My theory is the matching by different CC companies - some of whom are more forgiving than others.
EV1 is typical in its parochial view of address formats. Most other countries don't have 'States' - but you are forced to put something there and if what you make up doesn't suit the verification computer then you get bounced. I'm also worried about EV1's insistence on an organisation name - which don't appear on personal credit cards. Another possible source of error?
So its a bit of a lottery of what will work when - I do remember the day Network Solutions changed their system and *no* non-US Credit Cards would work!
Oh - not getting at the US specifically - don't get caught at an unattended French petrol/gas station with a non-French CC. You won't get any fuel!

Using a two letter code for your country will take care of the State problem. Like in France you would use FR, in Holland NL, in Germany DE. There are a few exceptions, like in Australia, your use a two letter code for your territory. If you are in Queensland you would use QL.

But I still have to guess if that is (for a particular CC) EN, GB or UK
Life is not that simple....

Yes, the UK would fall under the category of "some exceptions". It has also been difficult for UK cards to be processed (as well as Canadian cards) because they have letters in the postal code.

... except that if the price actually goes up to $6.49!
EDIT: But to be fair, I still very much appreciate that EV1 actually listens to clients' suggestions AND IMPLEMENT THEM. This is not something we see everyday with other registrars or hosting companies.
