hi all:
i appreciate all of your posts. many have been helpful to me.

here goes.....i am new to dedicated servers/hosting and have limited knowledge about what to do 1st. i got an ensim pro p4 with 7.3.

your advice would be appreciated on the following:
what should i do 1st to get up and running? by this, i mean that i have a few sites to transfer in, but i don't want to do this until i have a setup that is ready to handle what i point to it. my sites run osC shopping carts with mysql db's. i want to have everything in place before moving the sites.

also, what about security? what do i need to install to keep from being hacked?

all my questions are very basic. i just want to know what to do to get up and running quickly without messing anything up.

your replies and ideas would be appreciated.

I'd suggest you find someone to manage your servers for you - in many cases you can find setups for around $100 and regular management for less than that, either in a per-incident or monthly basis.

You should also look through the 'Ensim Server Checklist' in the Ensim HOW-TO forum, it's a good resource to start with.

Although the nice Ensim GUI interface may make it seem otherwise - there really is quite a bit of setup and ongoing work that needs to be done on a server.

If you have the money to spare - get setup and management for at least a few months. If you don't, buckle up and get moving on those HOW-TO's already! =)
