Full Version: Secure directories and users

I just picked up a Plesk server and am in the middle of learning. So far so good, except for this question:

The client I am setting up this box for wants secured directories. I have this figured out in the CP, although I can't figure out how to give a user a password and permissions/rights to individual directories.

What they want are sub directories of an FTP directory with different user's permissions on each directory and sub directory.

/ftp/Client/
/ftp/Client/Products/
/ftp/Support/

user1 = can create new directories and upload files to /ftp/Client/ and to read (and download) from /ftp/Client/Products and it's sub directories.

user2 = has full access to /ftp/ directory and all sub directories, including creating and deleting directories.

This one is a head scratcher for me. Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

This can not be done directly in Plesk. You must add the users manually from shell. Another alternative would be to use web users in Plesk, but this is not exactly what you want.

Thanks for the reply.

I have no idea how to go about adding the users in shell. Let alone setting them up with the correct permissions.

Is there an easier way, like with a cgi or php script to add .htaccess files? Or would that not give me the permissions I'm looking for?

Thanks again icon_smile.gif
