Full Version: How to find CPU heavy Scripts?

I recently found a website on my server that had some cgi scripts that were causing the server load to be realy high. For several days I kept seeing load spikes and didn't know what was causing it.

I would look at "top" and see the regular processes but nothing out of the normal. Then I searched throgh the server and found a site with a bunch of CGI scripts that looked like the problem. I disabled the account and the server Load dropped.icon_biggrin.gif

My question is, how do I find scripts that are being CPU hogs in my server? "Top" didn't show much and I would do an apache status and that didn't help either.

Any help would be great. icon_smile.gif

I know, but that just shows the current processes and not what scripts are running. It doesn't show any cgi or php scripts using high loads on the cpu.

How do I find out what scripts are the ones using my CPU resources?

If you have suexec enabled, TOP should show the cgi process, file name, and account username.
