Full Version: Pointing Main IP to Main Account/Domain
The Planet Forums > Control Panels > cPanel/WHM

Ok, when I first set my server up two months ago, the main ip address pionted to my main account/domain name when typed into the browser.

Well, recently I had decided to change the name of the main domain. I changed all of the settings through WHM to point to the new domain.

Once the new domain propagated all worked fine except that the main IP address new pointed to the old account/domain name. So I deleted the account from my server since it would no longer be used or needed.

Then the main IP pointed to some random account on my server. I inquired with Tech Support and they told me they could not fixed it. But now the main IP points to a page that reads: TEST

So my question is: How do I get my main IP address to point to my main account/domain when typed into the browser>

Much thanks!

I believe it has to do with the order that apache reads the virtual hosting information in httpd.conf or included files. It has been a long time but I do remember editing the order to change the IP respondent.

Projo, thanks! I see in the file what would need to be changed. The virtual host listing at the top is the one that was showing up.

However, since consulting with tech support, now it just shows up "test" and I have no idea what they did to make this generic test page show up.

It no longer shows up the top virtual host listing, if so, I could just change the order. Now I have to figure out how to undue whatever the tech guy thought he was doing.

If you have a default, unmodified cPanel config then this doesn't make sense. By default cPanel will show an Apache test page.

If you check httpd.conf you should find these lines:

BytesLog domlogs/YOUR.SERVER.NAME-bytes_log
ServerName YOUR.SERVER.NAME
DocumentRoot /usr/local/apache/htdocs

By default the document root (web folder) for the Shared IP is /user/local/apache/htdocs. You can either go into this directory using the root user and upload your own files, or you can edit the httpd.conf file and choose a new location. In both cases make sure you backup anything that you change. icon_smile.gif
