Full Version: Upgrading from 5.05 to 6.0.2

Hi, I am currently in PSA5.0.5/RH7.3 and I'd like to upgrade to 6.0.26.0.2. Is there a safeway to do it? I am not a linux expert and I do not want to damage anything in the box and my customers. What do you suggest?

Thanx in advance.

My 5.0.5 RPM versions upgraded fine, except for the well noted bugs in the 6.0.2 version. I can't speak for 5.x Standard installs though.

Honestly, if I had it to do over again I'd probably wait for a bit to see if Plesk issues a 6.0.3 which fixes some of the issues. I ran into nothing that caused the server to fail or anything along those lines, however there were enough minor glitches to keep me entirely too busy fixing stuff for a week after the upgrade.

So, is there any risk of loosing your data? Somebody told me that I will have to backup everything first and after upgrading to put the backup back to the new plesk. Is it right?

It would be really helpful if you could give a brief list of those.

Thanks

Let's see, off the top of my head...
  • Mailman doesn't work. And of course everybody wanted that one.
  • I can't remove domains without fiddling around because the default install thinks Tomcat has been installed and removed It never has been installed by my choice since the RS license doesn't support Tomcat.
  • Previous protected directories are no longer protected. Have to re-protect them all again.
  • If you're running any additional scripts against your access_log or error_log you need to reconfigure them because they're moved.
  • File Manager doesn't allow you to delete files unless you debug it.
  • Frontpage Extensions has been reported as broken for some, doesn't affect me since I detest FP with a passion.

There are a few others, but it's late and my memory is bad to begin with. icon_razz.gif They're all discussed on the Plesk forums. Just don't look in the Bugs thread, because it's perpetually empty for some odd reason.

That's not to say I don't like ver 6.x, because I do. Just that this has been the buggiest Plesk version they've ever released. It'll all get sorted out eventually I'm sure.
