I was wondering if this step is safe now? I was also wondering how i should go about this upgrade. Should i do a backup as standard then install the plesk 5.05 RPM? then switch to 6.0+? Will i be able to restore my standard 5.05 backups on the 6.0+ rpm version?
Thanks for any help. I have searched both here and at the plesk forums but i see no definite answers to these questions.

1. The chances for a non-intervention upgrade from Plesk 5 standard to Plesk 6 are about 70%. However with a little help in all cases the upgrade is succesfull.
2. You can not use the BU to migrate from Pelsk 5 to Plesk 6.
3. The option to backup, then restore to Plesk 5 RPM is valid and works.

So in order to go to 6.0+ I have to remove plesk 5 standard and install all the RPMs by myslef ...then the upgrade scripts will work? I only mention this because I have tried this before in the past several times and could not get all the reuired RPMS to install. Do you happen to know of any post that lists "ALL" required RPMS including the prerecs for the ones listed on the plesk site?
Thanks again for your help.

No, the easiest way is to let the system as it is and to use the autoinstaller.

Ok, let me just confirm these steps just to make sure im understanding correctly.
First i should do a backup of my current 5.0.5 standard install then remove the standard install.
Second i need to download the 5.0.5 psa autoinstall script and run it.
Third i restore the backup to the new RPM install.
Fourth, i download the 5-6.02 patch or whatever the current one is and run the autoinstaller for it.
Finally i submit a ticket for ev1 to upgrade my plesk key.
Let me know if i missed anything that i might need to do. Again, I appreciate your help.

any solid ideas on a solution here? I dont want to sepend money for a backup solution nor do i have quality bandwidth at my house to reupload my server backups. So a restore would be pretty much the last straw.
I appreciate any help

So, you can upgrade from 5.05 standard with the autoinstaller without the need to convert the installation to a RPM one. The plan is:
- use psadump to make the backup of your current Plesk 5 installation
- try to upgrade with the autoinstaller
- if it fails, delete the /usr/local/psa, install the plesk RPMs and the dependencies, restore the dump and use the autoinstaller again.

Ok, i hit a bump. After all the RPMS have been installed, it starts to work with the od plesk stuff to remove services and move them over to RPM. Once it shuts everything down and converts it all over to the rpm versions, it then trys top restart the services but it is unable to resolve anythiong now and the installer dies.
"Unable to resolve hostname or establish network access to local host: hostname . You should fix this problem prior to installing PSA 6. After you are done, run the installation again"
Thats the error i get. ive changed my hostname for privacy reasons. Any help on getting it to be able to resolve domains again would be much appreciated.
