Hi All,
I have a client on one of my servers who wishes to offer free webemail accounts for his customers.
he has chosen to use Bigmailbox.com.
They have sent instructions to him (and then to me) to change the MX record for his domain to point the one MX record for his domain to the mail servers at Bigmailbox.
This is fine, if I dont want to have him still collecting some mail accounts from the mail server running in my boxes (which is where all his admin accounts are).
Is there any way that I can configure my DNS/mail to query my mail server, then the bigmailbox mail servers before rejecting a user?
for example: user testy doesnt exist on my mail server, but does exist as an account on bigmailbox, so therefore would still be able to receive mail.
does this make sense at all?

redirecting to an outside source sends all to the outsource, and keeps nothing on your server.

I concur, once you add the MX record for bigmailbox for the domain in question, that sites email will never go near your server.. Mouse

I have used BigMailBox on one of my domains before..... beware.
After 2 years I turned it off.
Why did I turn it off?
1- The spam that they(and their partnerssssss) sent to the free webmail customers has a way of choking off the server... funny how that happens. edit: --- >Even though BigMailBox was listed in the MX as the first priority, the failover when they weren't reachable (down) was for the mail to come to my domain as it normally would have without BMB.
2- VERY Frequently I received spam/abuse notices from upset people all over the world who had received spam from MY domain name.... not forged!
3- Over 80% of my registered users were from known spam friendly countries..... my domain name was for my local home town, yet I had all of these foreign addresses.
Also... ask the customer this.... "do you really want to turn over a function (MX) of your domain name to a known spamming operation?"
One more thing.... all of the complaints will come to you since his domain name will show up with your name servers or worse they will goto HeadSurfer if you are using RS Name Servers....

thnx IndyJon, I was wondering if that would be an issue and it appears that it is.. I will keep that in mind for future customers who ask for it and point out that fact.. Mouse
