I want to be able to upload a site to a domain on a shared IP address before the nameservers propogate.

I noticed in another thread somewhere that you just use the IP address to log into FTP for a specific domain. But, what if I have several domains and the IP is shared?

Help is appreciated.

The default ProFTP service works on a username basis, not a domain name basis. You should be able to FTP to any domain on your site, or your IP, and log in with any user name. You will be directed to the appropriate location based on this username.

I am unable to connect by IP or username.

Is this normal for a new server, meaning, am I supposed to start the FTP service or is it already running by default?

Thank you

Do you have the right IP?

Do you have a firewall installed?

Have you tried to SSH to the box? If you SSH over, check the file /etc/xinetd.d/ftp_psa and make sure that "disable" is set to no, then restart xinetd (e.g. /etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart)

Have you set the domain up and configured an FTP user?

Are you sure there's not a problem on your end? Try to FTP via the windows shell. Note that if ident is on, on the server, it can take 5-10 seconds before you get a connection.

To answer your question more directly...I got my RH9/Plesk 6 server about 90 days ago and was able to connect via psa, ssh, and ftp without any special setup.

thanks for the info...I just got in too.

Apparently, I had to set my hostname up using a utility called Putty. Then, I restarted the server and was able to connect.

I hope there isn't any more little things I have to do, although I really like the learning experience - thanks again!

Putty is an SSH client. It will be the mail tool you use to maintain your server!
